Car Hire As a Money Saver By Catherine Parker

Car-Rentals, Travel-World
My husband recently purchased himself a Porsche 911 Turbo S. Lovely car, lovely to drive, looks the business, extortionate price for repairs or maintenance. And I guess this is why he now insists on using car hire to attend business meetings!
You see, many people assume car hire is just for times like holidays but it’s not always the case. Car hire can be used for cover when one’s own car has broken down and spending time in the great car hospital (the garage). We have come to a point in time when nobody can do without a car, unlike a hundred years ago when hardly anybody had a car or could see the need for one. However, today’s busy lives dictate the fact that we need to get from A to B as quickly as possible. We also seem to have an abundance of ’stuff’ to take with us!
Then there are people like my husband who have what I call a Sunday car. It comes out on special days, all nicely polished and gleaming, cruises around for a while, then goes back into its garage ready for the next sunny day. Although, I should say, he got himself a great bargain with this car with very few miles on it and he likes it that way. He doesn’t want to be de-valuing it by clocking up the miles every time I have to nip to Tescos!
Now when people like him need to travel long distances for meetings I guess it’s a toss-up between the cost of car hire and the pain of putting extra miles on the flash car - for him it’s worth it! To be honest, car hire is not that expensive when you take into consideration all you get. You will have a car of your choice, the size you need and you won’t have to worry about maintenance etc. You won’t have to cover road tax either and that’s a hefty price for people who own cars.
The bulk of people that use car hire services will be holiday makers and businessman.
For holiday makers of course it makes sense, particularly for those travel ling abroad. Most car hire companies will have a branch at the airport so you are straight off the plane and into your car. There is no waiting or queuing for public transport and no fractious children to cope with when you just want to get to your holiday destination and relax. The whole process is much quicker. The only drawback is that you cannot guarantee to get the car you expect but you will get one of suitable size that is safe.
Car hire companies will also be able to provide you with lots of information such as local information, places to avoid, maps and many other useful tips. You will be able to drive your car away from the airport, return it before you board the plane home and in between the world is your oyster!
Businessmen are also fans of car hire, particularly those who work in the City. They will usually go to work by train but often have to go out during the day for business meetings and this is always going to be more comfortable in car hire, especially if you get a personal driver with it!
Catherine Parker looks at the use of car hire as a way of saving time and money for holiday makers and businessmen and Sunday drivers.
