In England, Scotland and Wales you must, as a car rental customer, be ready to drive on the left side of the road.
It may sound very difficult, but once seated in your English rental car with the steering wheel on the right side, it will soon seem natural to follow the traffic on the left side.
Most will quickly adopt to the new style of driving, although the distance assessment (where on the road) the car is located, may be harder to adapt to when you just ‘moved’ into the other side, both on the road and in the car.
Many are inclined, during the first time in a rental car in England, to run a little (too) close to the left sidewalk.
Some drivers will also have to adjust to using the left hand to the gear shift in the English rental car, which is easier for people who frequently use the left hand than to strong ‘righties’.

Indeed, the transformation to left driving in a right-hand drive car rental in England is usually very easy.
It is often much more difficult as a tourist to drive in a ‘normal’ car - a left-hand drive car - in England. You ’sit wrong’ in relation to traffic and have less oversight. Furthermore, many places you will need to get out of the car to reach a parking card machine, which is located in the driver’s side compared to right hand drive RHD vehicles.
