Long distance flights can be deceptively stressful. While sitting in one spot for five, ten - or even fifteen - hours might not sound all that problematic, anyone who’s ever experienced a long flight will agree that it can be extremely tiring. Although choosing a suitable Heathrow hotel can help lessen your fatigue, there are many things you can do during your flight to lower your stress; check out a few tips below.

Dress Comfortably

Plan your trip so that you have time to change upon arriving, and travel in comfortable, breathable clothes. During the long flight, you’ll be glad that you’re wearing loose-fitting clothes instead of a constrictive suit. Once you’ve checked into you hotel at the other end, you can retreat to your room and change into something a bit more presentable.

Take a Massage Before Flying

It’s easy to get a massage at most major airports. Treat yourself to a five minute massage before boarding your plane. You’ll be properly loosened up then, and it will be easier to relax during your long journey. Check with Heathrow hotels to see if they offer massages, as that may be another viable option.

Bring Along Some Light Reading Materials

Reading is an excellent way to make the time fly during a long plane ride. However, you don’t want to bog yourself down with something heavy handed or overly involved. Bring a selection of magazines and short novels to help carry you away from the mind numbing fatigue that a long flight can induce.

Pack Snacks

While long flights provide snacks and meals, they may not have the sorts of things that you like. Before leaving hotels at Heathrow, then, pick up an assortment of tasty treats to enjoy during your flight. Be sure to also stay well hydrated, as getting dehydrated can make stress even more unbearable during a long flight. Getting hungry can also make you ill tempered, so avoid hunger at all costs to have the best journey possible.

Get Up and Move Around

Many people have the misconception that sitting still for long periods of time is relaxing - it isn’t. During your flight, be sure to get up and move around on a regular basis. This will keep you from feeling cramped and sluggish, and will ward off the travel blues.
