Many Rental Car Agencies Doing Away With Side Airbag Options - Car Rental Consumers Beware! By Lance Winslow

Not all cars have side air bags, although most of the luxury models do. If you are ever “T-boned” in an intersection it can be one of the worst accidents you could ever have causing great physical injury to all the passengers in the vehicle which are hit. This is why side airbags became so popular, and why they are standard equipment on BMW’s.
Perhaps, you didn’t know this but many rental car agencies have been ordering their cars with side airbag Options to keep their insurance costs down. Has it worked? Apparently not, it appears that the risk management insurance auditors at some of the largest rental car agencies in the country have decided that it does not pay to have side air bags due to the few times the vehicles are actually hit in a T-boned fashion.
If you often rent cars when you go on vacation or business trips this is something you need to know. Some people are not concerned in the least, and this is also one of the reasons that the Rent-A-Car agencies, at least the major ones have decided not to have side air bags anymore.
In fact, most car rental consumers have never even thought of this issue. Sure, most of the Rental Car agencies list this as a feature somewhere in their brochures, but most travelers are too busy to read those brochures, and they never even think twice about it.
However today, Rent-A-Car companies have to save money to stay in business, as travel is way down, and the recession has taken a toll on its industry. I hope you will please consider this next time you rent a car.
